The other day, the road I usually take was closed due to a gas main break.
I was forced to take an alternate route – throwing off my entire routine.
At first, the unfamiliarity was very unsettling.
I got lost. I was confused. The traffic was grueling.
I was about to scream at the universe, when one of my favorite songs came on the radio.
So I smiled. I sang. And I eventually found my way.
Today, I chose to take that unconventional route. It was scenic. The road had less potholes. And I had no trouble finding my way.
It now feels comfortable.
Sometimes you need an obstructed road to be reminded that change is defined as something different – not something worse.
And sometimes having no choice breeds even greater options.
