It Doesn’t Matter How We Get There, As Long As We Get There
Welcome to the 2018 daily rantings of a stoic!
In order to get the creative juices flowing, so that I can finally finish my book, my new years resolution is to publish one blog post per day for the next 364 days. My plan is to write whatever comes to mind. I have no idea where this will lead or even what will end up pouring out of me. Frankly, I don’t care. I write for me. Not for anyone else. I’m not even sure I’ll ever even publish these posts publicly. I am still struggling with the decision of whether or not I should burn the journals from my single years before my kids find them.
Anyway, this is blog post number one…
I am thrilled that 2018 has finally arrived. 2017 was a very challenging year that ended with my being diagnosed with a “redundant colon”. And that was one of the highlights of my year.
Seriously.
For the past 6 months I was convinced that I was dying, so this diagnosis came as quite a relief. A redundant colon is not a serious condition. Trust me. I have already googled it 3,000 times since Thursday.
A redundant colon basically means that the pretzel I just bit into will take a lot longer to go from point A to point B. Instead of taking a direct route, my undigested pretzel prefers to explore various pathways. While this can sometimes be a huge pain in the ass (literally), it is comforting to know that my intestines are able to supply the adventure of a lifetime for the world’s nourishment – not to mention a vast educational journey.
A redundant colon is sort of like that visual of the path to success – full of twists and turns and struggles and adventures and even many heartaches and upsets. And it isn’t until we experience the relief upon arrival that we can truly appreciate the journey.
In the end, does it really matter how long it took or what road we used to arrive, as long as we got there?
