A Refreshing Reminder that there is Still Goodness in a Dog Eat Dog World
I am so overwhelmed with emotion right now that I don't even know where to begin. I was all set to publish a fairly gloomy blog post pondering why there are so many venomous creatures in the corporate world when I received an unexpected call from a well-respected colleague whose distinguished four decade career on Wall Street I've always admired.
He was calling to inform me that he was giving me an equity stake in two of his portfolio companies. He said that he wanted to show his gratitude for contributions I had made to another project a while back without ever asking for anything in return.
I was speechless.
I wasn't expecting any type of remuneration. I was eager to get involved because I believed in the project and I was inspired by his work.
Furthermore, at the time, I had been so absorbed in worry about a family member that the work provided a much needed and welcomed diversion.
While the financial reward is certainly a welcomed bonus, I was truly content having been enriched with inspiration, catharsis and praise (more of what can't be stolen).
Lately, I've been so preoccupied battling over the things that money can buy, I keep losing sight of the items of true value. Having been so caught up in dealing with shysters, today was a refreshing reminder of the goodness in a dog eat dog world.
